Play the role of a showrunner for a TV series. Great for solo play or as a party game.
Created by Joem AntonioWrite your own TV series, but with some annoying but real-world obstacles that writers face.
To finish writing an action, horror, romance, or drama TV series with your writer's dignity intact
A computer or other device that can edit Google Slides
A copy of the 3SE Game Deck
A six-sided die (tip: if you don't have a physical die, you can use the Google Dice Roller or a mobile phone app)
The Table of Events
The Game consists of five rounds, with each round representing the creation of a three-sentence episode for the series.
The first round (or Pilot Episode) is the restating of the logline that includes the immediate Outcome of whether the Character gets closer or further away from the Objective (e.g. Because of [Motive], [Character] does [Action] to achieve [Objective] and/but [Outcome] happens.). You may restate your logline in 1-3 sentences. Write your Pilot Episode in slide 10 of your Game Deck and then post it on your TV Series' thread.
For each round:
Roll the dice three times on your TV series' thread in the 3SE Sandbox. Do this by typing "/roll" (no quotes) and then pressing enter. Repeat twice to get three dice roll results in all. These results will determine how the Company, the Stars, and the Fans may each potentially affect the episode to be written.
After the results come out, choose which die result you will assign to the Company, the Stars, or the Fans. If you want to avoid assigning a die result to one party, you may assign two to another party. (You may not assign three results to one party.) Input your dice roll assignments in the appropriate slide on your Game Deck. Refer to the Table of Events for the meaning of your results, and then copy and paste them beside your dice roll results.
In your Game Deck, write an episode meeting the criteria below. If the demands of the different parties are clashing, it’s up to you to choose which party to satisfy. Post your episode to your thread in the 3SE Sandbox.
The episode should contain information on Motive, Character, Action, Objective, and Outcome.
The episode must be 1-3 sentences long.
The Motive of the current episode must be the Outcome of the previous episode.
The Outcome must be either a progression towards or a regression away from the Objective stated in the Logline.
In your Game Deck, write an assessment and a score based on whether the episode satisfies the demands of the Company, the Stars, and/or the Fans. Post the assessment and the score in your thread in the 3SE Sandbox.
Satisfy none of the parties: 0pt.
Satisfy one party: 1pt.
Satisfy two parties: 3pts.
Satisfy all three parties: 5pts.
Follow the same steps as in Rounds 2-4, but note that the Outcome has to directly address either the Character’s success in achieving the Objective or the Character’s final failure.
In your Game Deck, compare the new Finale with the original Finale written prior to the five rounds. Write an assessment and a score based on the closeness of the two Finales in terms of similarities of the elements. Post the two finales, the assessment, and the score to your thread in the 3SE Sandbox.
Kept all five elements of the Original Finale: 10pts.
Four of five Elements: 7pts.
Three of five Elements: 4pts.
Two of five Elements: 3pts.
One of five Elements: 2pts.
Zero of five Elements: 10pts.
Tally your score.
